Acapulco Paradise Found: Your Dream Holiday Inn Escape Awaits!
Acapulco Paradise Found: My Honest (and Slightly Chaotic) Take on This Holiday Inn
Okay, buckle up, buttercups, because I’m about to spill the beans on Acapulco's Holiday Inn. "Paradise Found: Your Dream Holiday Inn Escape Awaits!" they say. Well, let's see about that, shall we? My expectations were kinda sky-high, especially after… well, after that other vacation last year (let's just say it involved a rogue iguana and a very questionable buffet). So, did this Holiday Inn live up to the hype? Let's dive in, shall we? Because frankly, I need another margarita just thinking about it…
Accessibility: Is it actually paradise for everyone?
First things first: Accessibility. The website boasts it, and honestly, it's good news. The "Facilities for disabled guests" aren't just a tick-box exercise. I mean, the elevator actually WORKED! (small victories, people, small victories). My friend, Sarah, uses a wheelchair, and she reported smooth access throughout most of the hotel, including the pool area. Wheelchair accessible is important and definitely a plus.
Internet: Wi-Fi Woes and Wireless Wonders…
Okay, let's get real about Internet. "Free Wi-Fi in all rooms!" they shout. Hooray, right? Well, the Wi-Fi was, at times, a bit like a temperamental toddler – working one minute, throwing a tantrum the next. Internet access – wireless was the main source of connectivity, so you will want to keep an eye out for this. Not a deal-breaker, but don’t bank on streaming your favorite show without a few buffering hiccups. The Internet access – LAN seemed to be more reliable, but who really wants to be tethered to a cable these days? Wi-Fi in public areas was generally okay -- just avoid trying to download large files during happy hour, because seriously.
Rooms: A Sanctuary, or a Slightly Dated Getaway?
Moving on to the rooms. The Air conditioning was a lifesaver, especially when you've been baking in the sun all day. Air conditioning in public area also seemed great. Got a room with a view, but I swear some of the window that opens wouldn't. Extra long bed was a plus, no stubbed toes. The Blackout curtains were glorious. Slept like a log (though I suspect the margaritas helped). The complimentary tea/coffee maker, free bottled water and refrigerator were nice touches. Didn't have to raid the mini-bar for a midnight snack. The In-room safe box was a relief, because you can never be too careful. The bathroom was functional with the shower and separate shower/bathtub. All the Toiletries were well stocked. All in all, really good and really nice. The Non-smoking rooms are a must.
Cleanliness and Safety: Feeling Safe & Sound… Mostly.
My main worry, and likely yours, given the state of the world, is Cleanliness and safety. I was impressed. They take the room sanitization seriously, and you have room sanitization opt-out available. They use Anti-viral cleaning products. I saw staff washing down surfaces constantly. They even had the Hand sanitizer station. Daily disinfection in common areas seemed consistent. The Staff trained in safety protocol, which is comforting. Safe dining setup was also in place, so no worries there. The Security [24-hour] gave me peace of mind, and the CCTV in common areas and CCTV outside property were reassuring. They also had Fire extinguisher and Smoke alarms. I will say, though, the "professional-grade sanitizing services" made me slightly paranoid. Maybe that's just me, though.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: Taco Time!
Now, the good stuff: Dining, drinking, and snacking. The Breakfast [buffet] was… well, it was a buffet. A slightly predictable buffet, but with enough to keep everyone happy. The Asian breakfast was a nice surprise, and I did go back for the Asian cuisine in restaurant. The Coffee shop was a daily ritual for me. The Poolside bar was the perfect place to nurse a cocktail (and listen to some truly questionable karaoke). The Restaurants were plentiful: Vegetarian restaurant and International cuisine in restaurant were great options. They also had a Snack bar, but I spent most of my time at the Poolside bar with my Bottle of water. There was also Room service [24-hour]. Overall, lots of options to keep you fed and watered.
Things to do: Relaxation and Rejuvenation… or Not So Much?
Things to do, ways to relax. Honestly, this is where the Holiday Inn really shined. The Swimming pool [outdoor] was gorgeous. The Pool with view was breathtaking. I spent hours there, pretending to be a glamorous movie star (I am not). They advertised a Body scrub / Body wrap / Sauna / Spa but I didn't see any of it! They also had Gym/fitness, but I'm pretty sure I made it my mission to AVOID that.
Services and Conveniences: All the Little Extras…
Services and conveniences. The Concierge was super helpful with arranging tours and giving us recommendations. Doorman and Front desk [24-hour] were available to answer any questions. The Laundry service was a lifesaver after a week of sun and sand. Having a Convenience store on-site was great, especially for forgotten sunscreen emergencies. The gift shop was okay, the gift/souvenir shop.
For the Kids: Family Fun Factor?
For the kids. I didn't bring any kids, but the Kids facilities looked decent.

Portland Pearl District Getaway: Hampton Inn & Suites Luxury Awaits!
Okay, buckle up, buttercups! This isn't your grandma's perfectly-formatted itinerary. This is real travel, with all the glorious, sweaty, margarita-fueled chaos that entails. We're going to the Holiday Inn Acapulco La Isla. Let's see if we survive. Acapulco: The Fiesta of Flop Sweats and Sunburns - My Attempt at a Vacation
Day 1: Arrival & Immediate Regret (aka, the Airplane from Hell)
- 6:00 AM (ish): Wake up. Or maybe it's more accurately described as "gasp awake." My alarm clearly hates me. Airport-bound. Praying the coffee is strong enough to combat the pre-trip jitters (and the lingering suspicion that I forgot to pack underwear).
- 8:00 AM: At the airport! Security lines. Ugh. This is always when I briefly consider a life of isolated hermitry. Someone actually smiled at me in the baggage check line. Is this a manipulation tactic? I'm already suspicious.
- 12:00 PM: Finally, we're here. The flight was… a thing. Kid screaming for the whole flight. I lost my headphones. The bathroom. Let's just say the less said the better. But hey, Acapulco! Landed!
- 1:00 PM: Taxi from the airport. The driver looked like he was trying to sell me a timeshare. “Paradise, señor! Paradise!" I just wanted my damn hotel.
- 2:00 PM: CHECK-IN: HOLIDAY INN ACAPULCO LA ISLA. HOLY. MOLY. It's… bigger than I expected. And the lobby…the AC is actually working. Bless. Okay, feeling a little less like a sweaty, travel-weary troll.
- 2:30 PM: Room. Decent view. Mini-fridge (SCORE!). The TV, however, is clearly from the 1980s. Guess I'll be doing a lot of reading. And napping.
- 3:30 PM: Poolside. Okay, this is more like it. Sun, cocktails, the promise of zero responsibility. Ordered a margarita (naturally). Anecdote Alert: The first sip… chef's kiss. Absolutely heavenly. Someone splashed me. Already the best and worst vacation of my life.
- 6:00 PM: Dinner at the hotel restaurant. Food was fine, but I’m still battling jet lag harder than I thought. Definitely feel the need for a nap.
- 7:30 PM: Collapsed into bed.
Day 2: Sun, Sand, and So Much Regret (aka, I Burnt My Nose)
- 8:00 AM: Woke up. Sunburn. My nose is officially a tomato. Went to the breakfast buffet (overpriced, but the fruit was good)
- 9:00 AM: Decided to be proactive and go to the beach.
- 9:30 AM: THE BEACH. It's beautiful. The water is crystal clear. Waves. I think there's a lot of seaweed.
- 10:00 AM: I forgot sunscreen on my nose.
- 11:00 AM: Beach vendor. Selling everything from sunglasses to bootleg Rolexes. Didn't buy anything but am now convinced I need a hat.
- 12:00 PM: Lunch. Tacos. So good, possibly worth the impending food poisoning.
- 1:00 PM: Back to the pool. More margaritas. Less responsibility.
- 3:00 PM: Burnt nose is now officially on fire.
- 4:00 PM: Forced myself to put on sunscreen.
- 5:00 PM: Nap.
- 6:00 PM: Decided to try and find a restaurant. Found a little taco place down the street.
- 7:00 PM: Food was amazing. I think. The sunburn makes it hard to taste things.
- 8:00 PM: Back to the hotel.
- 8:30 PM: Watched some terrible TV.
- 9:00 PM: Fell asleep again.
Day 3: The Great Cave of Doubt (aka, Exploring Beyond the Pool)
- 9:00 AM: Okay, time to be adventurous. Forced myself out of bed. Nose still burning.
- 10:00 AM: Decided to visit La Quebrada. The high-diving show. I'd seen the videos. I was both terrified and intrigued. Taxi ride there was dicey. The driver kept trying to strike up conversations. I don't speak much Spanish. Awkwardness level: maximum.
- 11:00 AM: The show! Absolutely insane. These guys are jumping off cliffs into a tiny pool of water. My stomach did a backflip just watching. Spectacular. Truly.
- 12:30 PM: Ate lunch at a seaside restaurant overlooking the cliff. Ate the seafood.
- 2:00 PM: Back to the hotel. Needed serious recovery time.
- 3:00 PM: Pool. More margaritas. Sunscreen this time!
- 5:00 PM: Decided to get a massage.
- 6:00 PM: Massage was okay. The masseuse kept trying to sell me skin cream.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner. Trying to find some authentic food. Ended up ordering tacos.
- 8:00 PM: Thinking of heading to bed.
- 9:00 PM: Lights out.
Day 4: I'm Basically a Local (aka, Repeat, Repeat, Repeat)
- 9:00 AM: Wake up. Repeat the breakfast buffet.
- 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM: Rinse and repeat. Poolside. Margaritas. Sunscreen. Nap. Taco run.
- 7:00 PM: Dinner at a restaurant in the hotel.
- 8:00 PM: Going to bed.
Day 5: The Last Day (aka, Goodbye, Glorious Mess)
- 9:00 AM: One last breakfast. One last margarita. Sob.
- 10:00 AM: Pack. Always a disaster. Stuff everywhere. How did I accumulate this much laundry?
- 11:00 AM: One last dip in the pool. Saying goodbye to my new best friend, the pool.
- 12:00 PM: Check out.
- 1:00 PM: Taxi to the airport.
- 2:00 PM: Airport.
- 4:00 PM: Airplane.
- 8:00 PM: Landed at.
- 8:30 PM: Home.
- 9:00 PM: Unpack. Laundry. The end.
Final Thoughts:
Acapulco was… an experience. It’s not perfect. It’s a bit rough around the edges. But it's authentic. It’s got the most beautiful beaches and the most gorgeous people. My nose may never be the same, and I may have consumed enough tequila to fuel a small car, but I wouldn't trade this glorious mess for anything. Would I go back? Absolutely. In fact, send a postcard. I'm already planning my next escape.
Gulmarg Ski Paradise: India's Untamed Powder Awaits!
Okay, Acapulco. Holiday Inn. Sounds...generic. Why should I even *bother* with "Paradise Found"?
What about the rooms? Are they, like, moldy and… well, *Holiday-Inn-y*?
What's the food situation? I'm picturing sad scrambled eggs and lukewarm coffee...
Is the beach actually nice? Acapulco's beaches have a… reputation.
What's there to *do* besides… well, nothing?
Is it safe? Because travel warnings and news reports...
So, if I'm honest, is this a good choice for *my* holiday?
What about the staff? Will they be nice?
